Congress is pushing legislation right now that will make lawsuits - including yours and those of your family and friends - nearly impossible to pursue here in Virginia. These bills will "pre-empt" Virginia law, and rig the system against individuals like you. These laws tip the scales in favor of powerful corporate defendants—insurance companies and big medical conglomerates. We need to send a strong message to our members of Congress, who's names and links to contact are included below, that these anti-civil justice bills must be stopped. Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in this country, and Virginia is no exception. Bills like HR 1215 would affect Virginians whose lives have been destroyed by medical insurance companies that refuse to pay for real mistakes—even if the doctor who made the mistake wants to make things right! The US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee even refused to exclude cases where doctors operated on the wrong body part or wrong person, or where the harm was caused intentionally or due to sexual abuse. If you agree that it is unacceptable for the Federal Government to tell the Commonwealth of Virginia how to run our own courts, and to limit your right to hold corporations accountable, contact your Congress person and Senators today. You have the power to tell your representatives to stand up for you and your family, friends, and neighbors and vote NO on offensive anti-civil justice legislation that interferes with long-standing Virginia law.
